Tentoonstelling

Uli Sigg (1946), Zwitsers zakenman, diplomaat en kunstverzamelaar, bezit op dit moment de grootste particuliere collectie hedendaagse Chinese kunst in de wereld. De collectie van Uli Sigg bestaat uit ongeveer 2400 werken van meer dan 400 kunstenaars, onder wie de in het Westen bekende kunstenaars Ai Weiwei en Shao Fan. De meeste kunstenaars zijn hier echter nog onbekend. In A Chinese journey: The Sigg Collection, catalogus bij de gelijknamige tentoonstelling in het Noordbrabants Museum, wordt een vijftigtal werken van 30 kunstenaars getoond uit de periode 2004-heden. De werken worden opgedeeld in drie thema’s: traditie, spiritualiteit en de sociaal-politieke realiteit.

Encompassing no fewer than 2400 pieces by some 400 artists, the Sigg Collection is the largest collection of Chinese contemporary art in the world in the exhibition A Chinese Yourney, The Sigg Collection. The Noordbrabants Museum is exhibiting fifty or so key pieces from the collection mostly created between 2004 and 2017 with amongst others, works of Ai Weiwei and Shao Fan. The paintings, sculptures, photos and video installations are a reflection of the high quality and great power of expression behind China’s most recent art pieces.
